Pablo Vargas Lugo
(Ciudad de México, 1968)
Vargas Lugo studied Visual Arts at the National School of Plastic Arts of the UNAM. Some of his most important exhibitions include "Actos de dios" (Mexico Pavilion, 58th Venice Biennale, 2019), "Atlas" (Museo Universitario del Chopo, Mexico City, 2018), "Micromegas" (Museo Amparo, Puebla and Museo Tamayo, Mexico City, 2014) and "Eclipses for Austin" (Blanton Museum of Arts, Austin, 2009). He has participated in the 12th Shanghai Biennial (2018) and the 26th Sao Paulo Biennial (2004). His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (MACBA), Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), Museo Tamayo and Hammer Museum, among others.
The author comments on his work, "I am driven by these themes because as humans, in one way or another, we are always feeding from a deep pool of myths and beliefs, even if we know they are imaginary. We recreate our blind spots to trick ourselves into action. I strive to shed light on them through art”.
